Uzella Tait

Obituary In a family of ten children, Uzella was born on September 6, 1929, in Gastonia, North Carolina to the late Napoleon and Janie Brown. "Zeke" as she was affectionately called, received her early education at the Gastonia High School where she developed a love for classical music and political science, under the instruction of a "beloved" teacher Mr. R. L. Schooler. Since jobs were limited in Gastonia, she worked faithfully many years in the domestic field. "Zeke" was nurtured in a Christian home, where her mother was instrumental in studying and teaching the Bible to her large family. As a result, at an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was baptized at the Friendship Baptist Church in Gastonia. In 1951 she moved to Jamaica, New York to assist one of her sisters in need. It was here that she met and married the love of her life, Leroy Tait. To this union, three children were born. "Zeke" and Leroy soon moved to Roosevelt Long Island where they raised their children. In later years "Zeke" and Leroy were ordained as Deacon and Deaconess at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church there in Roosevelt, New York. Eventually, "Zeke" and her family relocated to the state of Oklahoma where she passed away on Saturday February 13, 2016 at the age of 86. She is preceded in death by her Parents: Napoleon and Janie Brown; Brothers: William J. Brown and Joshua Brown; Sisters: Helen Clawson, Emma Jane Black, Pearl Brown and Vizena Crawford. She leaves behind and will be lovingly remembered by: Her daughters: Carolyn Hicks and Diana Tait, Son: Leroy Tait, Jr.; Sisters: Tryhenas Bratton and husband Roy, Charlotte Armstrong of Brooklyn, NY and Evelyn Vernell Edwards of Gastonia, NC. Son-in-law: Alvin Hicks, 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild as well as many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
