Genevieve Hughes

Obituary Genevieve Mae Vernon Hughes of Tulsa passed away and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the age of 79. She was born June 17, 1928 in Muskogee, OK to Fred and Lotta Vernon. She is survived by her husband, Paul Hughes, of the home. They were married 64 years ago in Jay, Oklahoma on July 15, 1944. To this union they had 3 sons. Gary Curtis Hughes and wife, Janet, of Ponca City and their 2 daughters, Donna and Jennifer; Larry Vernon Hughes and wife, Barbara, of Dallas, TX and their 3 children, Emily and Sam Caddel, Jonathan Hughes, Sarah Hughes and daughter Sophia; the late Dr. Robert Allen Hughes and Karen Hughes-Mauldin of Wagoner, their 3 children, Missy and Mike Lasater and sons, Hunter and Boone, Joshua and Candice Hughes and children Bear and Remington, and Jacob and Suzanne Hughes. Genevieve, affectionately known as "Ginnie", was born in Muskogee but was raised in Coweta, OK where she attended Coweta schools and met her spouse, Paul Curtis Hughes. They later moved to Tulsa where she was employed by Edison and Hale High Schools and Bailey, Martin and Fay Insurance Company, retiring in 1980. They were members of Tulsa's Eastwood Baptist Church, the Spectaculars and the Do-Si-Do square dance clubs. Genevieve enjoyed camping at the lake, shopping for antiques and collectibles, attending sporting events of her children and grandchildren, playing canasta with her long-time friends and stock market trading. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Berniece Collins, her son, Dr. Robert Hughes, and great-grandson, Canyon James Lasater. Family visitation will be on Monday, April 14, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Coweta. Burial will be at Vernon Cemetery in Coweta under the direction of Wright Funeral Home in Coweta.
